Washington State Auditor’s Report Revealed More Than Just Porn On Roger Goodman’s Government Computer

You would think that it was bad enough that the Washington State Auditor found that sexually explicit adult websites had been accessed by Roger Goodman’s password-protected government computer while he was the Executive Director of the Washington State Sentencing Guidelines Commission.  In that report, Roger Goodman did admit receiving inappropriate material from one source (and then erasing it from his computer); as he typically does with embarrassing facts, he denied knowing about the other internet porn sites that had been accessed using his government computer. But in addition to the internet porn, Roger Goodman had a number of other violations of state law that were identified by the Washington State Auditor.

Taken directly from the State Auditor’s Whistle Blower Report (No. 00-052):

“We conclude the Executive Director violated state law by using a state-assigned cellular telephone and the SCAN telephone system to make personal telephone calls”.

“We have determined there is reasonable cause to believe there has been a violation of state law”.

“The Executive Director of the Sentencing Guidelines Commission is submitting requests for travel expenses that were not incurred”.

“We have determined there is reasonable cause to believe there has been a violation of state law”.

“The hard drive of the state-owned computer assigned to the Executive Director reflected that Internet sites related to sexually explicit material also were visited. During our investigation, the Executive Director submitted a memorandum to us admitting some use of the state-owned computer for personal purposes…”

“We have determined there is reasonable cause to believe there has been a violation of state law”.

Not surprisingly, the State Auditor also noted…

“The Executive Director resigned from the Sentencing Guidelines Commission prior to the issuance of this report”.

Roger Goodman regularly touts his experience at the Washington Sentencing Guidelines Commission as one of his accomplishments. It is truly ironic.

Unfortunately many of those folks over in King County will think using a government computer to access porn sites is a straw in Roger Goodman’s cap. However, I’m optimistic there are enough other voters in King County and the rest of Washington State to offset the insanity.
